Summary

In their hometown of Five Fingers, Michigan, the O’Donnells and the Angerts have mythic legacies. But for all the tall tales they weave, both founding families are tight-lipped about what caused the century old rift between them, except to say it began with a cherry tree. But when Saul Angert, the son of June’s father’s mortal enemy, returns to town after three mysterious years away, June can’t seem to avoid him. Soon the unthinkable happens: She finds she doesn’t exactly hate the gruff, sarcastic boy she was born to loathe. Saul’s arrival sparks a chain reaction, and as the magic, ghosts, and coywolves of Five Fingers conspire to reveal the truth about the dark moment that started the feud, June must question everything she knows about her family and the father she adored. And she must decide whether it’s finally time for her and all of the O’Donnells before her to let go.

First Thoughts

I have literally been avoiding this book for the longest time, I kept saying I’ll read it later, then later came and I just really did not want to read with book it just seemed so boring when I started it. A book that takes place in a small town with two fighting families just seems like a ton of drama and ANOTHER remake of Romeo and Juliet and I think there are enough of those. Now I started with book like someone was forcing me to eat a food I hate, there was a step dad and mother with half brother, the best friend who has a crush on the guy June is not supposed to be around and the same guy who she runs into as fate would have it. Then things start to take a twist and I start to hate it less and less as the story starts to expand and you are introduced to a new world of lies and love all mixed in together.

The character are some that I think we see very often a misunderstood, a sweet shy girl, and two loud best friends, and normal parents and siblings to wrap it all together. So far I think the best friends I way way to cliche with them being loud, funny, and forcing the main character to be dragged along by them, but always there to back you up. I think I have a small connection to June but at the same time I think half the things that run through her mind are total crap. So far it looks promising.

Final Thoughts

This book started out in a way where I never wanted to read it but as the story develops the tone goes from one of a storyteller talking about two families drama into a voice of eire passion lace with sadness and love. The Author takes a step into the pages and pours her soul into it and we get to see it to feel everything the characters feel, the characters become so much more than just a shy girl and a troubled boy, they become a broken girl who is trying to find out what she wants in life and if everything she ever believed in was a lie, like her heart that was full of black and white has been shown color but the color is all red with blood and lies. The boy is just a boy who was on the wrong side of a bad decision and fate took its place and left him with the remains of the damage it had caused. These two characters I have wrapped my heart around and fell in love with both of them because I am like both of them in a way and I cannot help but to feel for both of them.

The ending of this book and the power of the story it holds in itself is one I think many can relate to and the truth about memories and the lies they hold within them, how things from the different point of views can be so completely different from the truth and how such hate can thrive from such sweet sorrow. I know the struggle of sweet June trying to hold onto someone you have lost and wishing with all your heart you can go back to them or bring them back to you but you also know they wouldn’t want that for you and you must try to be strong and more on. This book has brought me such much pain and love, in this one book, I found my Million Junes, and I think that you will too.

For as long as “June” O’Donnell has been alive, her parents have had only one rule: stay away from the Angert family. But when June collides quite literally with Saul Angert, sparks fly, and everything June has known is thrown into chaos. Why has June an O’Donnell to her core never questioned her late father’s deep hatred of the Angert family? After all, the O’Donnells and the Angerts may have mythic legacies, but for all the tall tales they weave, both founding families are tight-lipped about what caused the century-old rift between them. Now June must question everything she knows about her family and the father she adored, and she must decide whether it’s finally time for her—and all the O’Donnells before her—to let go

Review

First thoughts

This book already has a hold on me that I find myself unable to put it down, I have literally been spending every free moment of my time trying to finish this book and even when at work I force myself to mop and read at the same time (I do not recommend it because you tend to lose your spot every time you look away), there is just so much going on in this book that I have even been popping out theories left and right wondering if this is the truth the lies behind the fake mask everyone wears.

Dee poor little sweet Dee I have grown fond of her and the others in the group, each one has their own past and secrets, the first thing I loved about this book was you know when a character gets thrown in and they are like how did you end up here and they just tell you how, well this book does that but we also get the flashback and in their perspective, what was running through their mind at the time they gave their hearts away. The characters are some I give a chance to like a dog letting someone pet them but still watching them waiting to bite if harmed, I just feel like they are promising me so much here and I don’t think i’m going to get to see the character grow and develop as much as I want them to. The Deamon is the one i’m dieing to get to know right now he is just being seen to look rude and callous but I think there is something deep down in him that makes him care about his group of kids, I mean if he didn’t he would take an arm or leg and not their hearts just give it back in a few months.

The story keeps me drawn in just when I think i’m getting bored with it I get something new with drama and heartfelt emotion, the writer has put a lot of thought into this story and has tied up a lot of ends about the demons and the way the live and exist and the “otherworldly things” that the team keeps having to battle.

Final Thoughts

I am not sure I can ever gather the words to express my final thoughts of this book, the ending was a total blind side to me and now I’m just sitting here staring at my computer screen left with the remains of my heart this  book has shattered. I wish I could now be heartless to make the pain I feel inside for this book go away because I did not think this book would hit me so hard but it hit me like a truck going 90 to nothing. The characters in this book are ones I did not know I would grow so attached to until the ending  from the broken Dee to the sweet and funny James to the crazy and unyielding Gremma.

I just loved reading this book, I really truly did and I’m really shocked to be speaking these words because I thought the plot was going to fizzle out and it did in a way but in another way it was so much more than anything I thought would ever happen. This book have captured my heart and crushed it but in another way made it fall in love, this book will bring you the “feels” so hard you better bring a box of tissues with you while reading it. The I chose this message is something I think I can hold onto for the rest of mylife, and it will shower a bright loving hope on all of my days because I know that I chose this.

Just like I chose to read this book, I will choose to read it again and I think I can even put it on my shelf of favorites because the impact of this book has just wrecked me so hard. This is a must read!

A Court of Disapointment and Clifhangers

A Court of Wings and Ruin. By: Sarah J. Mass

SUMMARY

Alright, buckle up ladies and gentleman because we have a lot to weather here, no really we are about to go through all four season of the high courts.

Ferye is back in the spring court pretending that everything is fine and happy just as it had been before Amarantha, she is eating, laughing and even painting again, however she is making the spring court a living nightmare. Ianthe tries to pull one over on Feyre telling her and Lucien how she thought they wanted Nesta and Elain to be fey like them, Feyre bits her tongue as does Lucien but she harbors her hate deep down waiting for the perfect moment to strike. While in the spring court the king of Hybern sends his niece(Brannagh) and nephew(Dagdan) who are twins, along with Jurian, to keep Tamlin company while also trying to bring down the wall. Ferye has been causing major problems for Tamlin and Ianthe, she makes Tamlin question Lucien and Feyre’s relationship, all his guards turn against him along with his people. One the last visit to the wall with Lucien, Jurian, Brannagh, and Dagdan, Feyre has decided to return home now that Tamlin’s court is in complete shambles and is ready to fall at any given moment, but along the way she finds Lucien, who then decides to come with Feyre to find Elain.

Feyre is poisoned by faebane so she cannot winnow like she had planned to do instead Lucien winnows them as far as he can but they must now trek through the Autumn Court, Home to Lucien’s family who would much rather see him dead than in their court. After a few days of traveling they are intercepted by Lucien’s brothers, one of whom is Eris(Oh yes the evil man himself, get ready it’s about to get good!) They fight against the brothers and are able to get away from them and they chose to settle in a cave on the mountains that hold the border of the Winter Court, here Feyre tells Lucien about her sister Elain. The next day they enter the Winter Court but are again found by Lucien’s brothers. However Cassian and Azriel arrive and take them to the night court.

Once Rhysand returns to Velaris, after being on the human side of the wall gathering information, him and Feyre reunite with each other and he agrees to take in Lucien but only after all three males threaten his life if he makes any mistakes. Feyre then goes to the house of wind to visit her sisters accompanied by Lucien and Cassian, she find Nesta in the library and discovers something strange and ancient rest inside her sister, she also finds out her and Cassian have been doing nothing but fighting daily. She then visits Elain’s room to find her heartbroken and wanting to return to her human love Graysen as they were to be married in a week.

The Inner Circle decides to host a meeting with all the High Lords of all the courts(yes this includes Tamlin and the Autumn court) to seek help and to band together to fight in this war. They also decided to seek help of a mortal queen, one the other sisters had cursed and sold to a man who adores beautiful women, but she is hidden somewhere on the human side of the wall and after a heated debate about who would go Lucien offers to go on the journey to keep his mind off of Elain, who still rejects his love. Amren is still trying to translate the Book of Breathings, and later begins training Nesta to use the magic she had stolen from the cauldron. While Feyre trains with Cassian to help improve her fighting and Azriel to help show her how to fly.

The meeting then takes place in the Dawn Court as Thesan agreed to. Thesan high lord of Dawn is accompanied by his captain of guard and lover. Helion high lord of Day with a few of his guards, followed by Kallias high lord of Winter and his mate Viviane who is Mor’s best friend. Next to appear is Tarquin high lord of summer with Varian and Cresseida, lastly in comes Beron high lord of Autumn with his wife and sons and right before they call the meeting to start Tamlin comes in by himself. Maybe they can stay civil long enough to prepare for the war that is to come and not kill each other.

Review

My first thoughts reading this book were how and the heck am I going to be able to get through so many pages of Feyre being with Tamlin! I was so hyped for this book I forgot I would have to suffer through that horrible event, but it wasn’t very horrible at all to be honest. I loved everything Feyre was doing to Ianthe and the evil Hybern twins, I was begging her to let Lucian slap Ianthe for what she did to the sisters talking about ” I thought you wanted to make them Fae,” she knows that is total bull. I must say though I think what Feyre did to Tamlin is a little bit wrong okay. I said it. I did, kill me know, but I mean he did it out of love. He feels the love for her that she feels for Rhys now you tell me Feyre would not go through what Tamlin went through to get Rhys back because I think she would. Maybe not as far as using her sisters but I mean everything else he did yes. He thought what he was doing was right and I get that it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies but he was trying. After a girl you love dies then comes back to life then wants to go back out into danger and is also forced to go see a Evil Night court guy (because that is how the rest of the courts see Rhys) I think I can see where I would try and keep her safe and protected.

I had such a hard time putting this book down throughout the middle of the book. I just wanted to make it to the ending I had so many questions that needed to be answered. There was so much character growth in this book that I just fell in love with everyone all over again. You get to see a new side of the people you thought you knew, secrets are exposed and there is such so much GOD I’m getting excited just thinking about it. The sisters are my favorite part I must admit, at first Nesta I hated she was so ungrateful mistreating my poor Cassian I wanted to smack her around, and poor Elain I just wanted to hug her and tell her everything would be okay, and the one person who she seems to connect with I was shocked at how different someone can act when around another person, Elain literally brings the good out in everyone.

Now this is where it gets ugly because the ending was a let down for me. All my questions I still have no answers to. Like everything this book had built up every single detail that I was so hyped to find out, after reading 707 FREAKING PAGES!! I still got no answers. I was so mad when I finished this book I wanted to scream. The Golden queen, what happens to her? Lucian and Elain? The Humans? The Fae? Tamlin? Just everything about this ending sucked for me! Then at the end we get a spin off book which people are saying will be from the point of view of one of the characters now but we have no for sure yet. So all these things you have rattling around in your head you might never get an answer. I feel like the ending was just not a good one, the book built up so much hype throughout it just to sizzle out in the end.

Another thing Rhys being all Night court primal male turns into Feyre’s lap dog. Like the dark sweet Rhys we fell in love with is gone and it’s just Rhys taking orders from Feyre and love Feyre, I was just so over Rhys and Feyre halfway through the book, It broke my heart a little to say that, The Rhys I fell in love with in the second book the strong alpha male who was like the back bone of everyone and was always protecting his family with his swagger of cockiness is just gone, so get ready for that.

I loved the series, I do I loved that start of this book but the ending it was a big let down. I think that the second book is still the best book out of all three, but this book is worth a read just don’t get all fully hyped about it unless you just like it for the story and the love then yeah you won’t care about the ending but I am invested in this book I sunk the time into loving this book. I grown attached to these characters that I need to know what happens to them I don’t want another cliff hanger and wait another year for a book that might or might not answer the questions that you will be asking yourself if your are also invested into it.

The Empire of EVERYTHING

Empire of Storms by: Sarah J. Maas

Summary

Aelin, Rowan, Aedion, and Lysandra have traveled to a secret meeting area of Aedion’s, to meet with a few of the Lords of Terrasen who have decided that Aelin’s court is a disgrace and will not accept her as their queen and if she tries it will be an act of war. Shortly after Rowan is sent to get Dorian from Rifthold where the witches are attacking.  Dorian is found by Rowan in one piece along with Manon who is letting them escape. Once back at Morath Asterin is sentenced to death for Manon’s mistakes but Manon betrays her clan and attacks her grandmother then flies away

Rowan and Dorian meet up with Rolfe who has Gavriel and Fenris with him and they explain they were sent by Maeve to kill Lorcan and she is also sailing to Ellywe. Aelin arrives later, in full swagger mode, Rolfe tells the Fae to kill her to get in his good graces. She tells him if he joins her army she will make him Lord of the pirates. A warning bell sounds. Rolfe looks at the maps on his hands, showing the Valg are approaching. He finally agrees to Aelin’s plan. When  the battle is over and the group is assembled together, Elena appears to them. She tells them the lock is in the center of a temple in a marsh. They take off on a ship, headed for the marsh. They see Manon riding toward them on Abraxos. She is unconscious and falls off the wyvern and into the sea.

Elide and Lorcan join forces both hoping to find information on Aelin and Morath. They  are performing now, fortune telling and sword play. Lorcan’s display is much more popular. They both realize they are attracted to the other.Demons attack their camp looking for Elide. They tell Lorcan her real name. He tells the demon she’s not there. He confronts Elide after the fight is over. They share some truths about their backgrounds. Something triggers Lorcan, and he examines the amulet Aelin gave him. He realizes it’s a fake and roars in anger. He steers the ship towards Ellywe, where they finally find them, in the Marsh.

Aelin opens the chest, inside an ancient mirrors with the eye of Elena on the corner. The Fae males carry the mirror between them. Everyone is exhausted. When they return to the coast, they see 100 ships, Melisande’s fleet. Soldiers are already on shore. Aelin surprises everyone by striding directly toward them. The leader of the troops is Ansel of Briarcliff, who Aelin met years ago in the desert. Ansel brought these ships and warriors at Aelin’s request to repay the life debt she owes her. They will all sail north tomorrow to protect Terrasen. Ansel says it’s Maeve, not Erawan, who had been setting the fires, trying to make it look like it’s Aelin. Another armada is headed toward them, It’s Maeve. They know she will wait for daylight to ask for Aelin’s surrender so everyone can witness it.  After Aelin is asleep, Rowan flies to many of Maeve’s ships one by one to make a request of his cousins aboard. They will each consider it.

Dorian takes Aelin and Manon down to the mirror stowed below deck to show them something. He thinks Deanna’s riddle about it suggests that Aelin and Manon can use it to see the future, and determine how to defeat Maeve, and use the keys. The two join hands, press them to the mirror, and disappear. Aedion is furious, Rowan says they’ll continue to ready for battle. Aelin and Manon are in the past, seeing Gavin and Elena. They say that Malla’s bloodline must bleed again and use Malla’s gifts to forge the lock again, with Elena leading them. They will have to give every drop of their life force to do it, to send them home and eternally seal the lock between the worlds.

The battle ensues. Lysandra fights in her modified sea dragon form, attacking the ships marked by Rowan. Lorcan notices Maeve isn’t among her ships. He sees her ashore, near where he left Elide.

To find out what happens next you will need to read the book 😉

Review

Sarah J. Maas is once again put on a pedestal for all to look at as she gives us this book that is a masterpiece. I loved reading this book every time I open it I just get so excited knowing everything that is about to go down and I seem to find something new every time. Not only do we get the full Celaena swagger that we have grown to love we also get, sweet Dorian, Moody Lysandra and Aedion, the lovely Elide, and of course so much more. This book has taken all the other books and has brought them all together into one great overwhelming event that will have you thinking how can it get any better.

The characters in this book are some that I have grown so attached to in such a short time, Lysandra was just brought to us in the last book and yet I find her to be a very key apart in holding the group together. She seems to be the backbone and the go between when things get rough between Aedion and Aelin, she seems to always know what to do or say to make Aedion feel better about himself or just be there for him. Aedion seems still a little lost to me like he wants to be Aelin’s right hand but she still keeps him at a distance and Lysandra seems to fill that hole never letting him second guess his worth. Elide! God Elide I think she is my most favorite character in this entire book, this girl has been through so much pain and heartbreak, but yet she still has the heart to go out and trust people and find hope in the world, she hunts for a queen who she doesn’t even know is alive she is just going off rumors but yet she still lets herself believe fully that there is no chance she is dead. She even find good in Lorcan which I feel for also he goes out of his way to help Elide and starts to fall for her. He make her TAMPONS for god sacks like what man would do that. He is in so deep and he doesn’t even notice but when she tells him she hates him I can only imagine the pain he must feel. The other characters in this book seem to all grow as a person each and everyone not a single one of them is static and boring, they all have ever changing developments that just make us fall in love with them more.

The plot of this book is on point all the time we never stray from the end goal  While reading I felt like I was watching a movie not just reading a book I was so sucked into the action when Lys got hurt and Aedion was there for her I felt it my heart sink and the sadness seep in when he thought she was dead, or the fight between Manon and her grandmother I wanted so bad for Manon to put her nails through her face. God I really hate that old woman. You just get so invested when you read this book its like im actually in the book with them.

The ending was so Sarah J. Maas and we are left with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers like I cannot wait till Tower of Dawn! I think I want this book more than I wanted A court of Wings and Ruin.

This book keeps you in it and on the edge of your seat dying for the next book to come out I recommend this book, if you liked the rest of this series then you are going to LOVE this book.
