Review

First Thought

So let’s talk dirty. . . about the drama that is, not about the two hotties who still seem to be fighting over Kylie we will get to that later. Right now I want to go over the facts this book makes me cringe about. Fact number one I cannot stand the lack of action in this book like for the love of god I want something to happen other than Kylie going back and forth between two guys she likes. Number 2 is the fact that Kylie can talk to the ghost and everything but apparently ghost cannot communicate with her very well so all we get is some weirdo covered in blood telling her to fix things and then vanishes that is the most useless thing in the entire would like really come on. So far the only stimulating thing that has happened is Perry going wild and shifter fighting it out with Kevin now that was great! We also get occasional I feel someone following my presence but it results in a let down of nothing happening. I live in danger and excitement in these kinda of books but all I’m getting so far is boy drama which is in almost every book you will ever read.

Character-wise Holiday has grown on me I feel like she is someone I can love she has been broken my a men once before and now she might be trying to love again but her kids in her camp are her life and she does everything to protect them no matter what and her back and forth with Brunette is just the best. I love the pent-up emotions that they share with each other but refuse to act upon which is made even better by Della always telling them they should ” Bump Uglies”. Brunette is also starting to grow on me because his character has become so much more than a guy in a black suit is a douche bag, he has become a teacher and caretaker of the kids as well as watching out for Holiday.

Final thoughts

My action came! FINALLY!! WE HAVE BROKEN THE ICE AND SHIT HAS HIT THE FAN!  Although it was a very tiny fan we still got what we wanted.  We have discovered the people who have been following Kylie and why they kidnapped her. We have been given not one but two pissed off she-wolf, a half skunk cat, along with heartbreak and new romance. What more could you ask for how about death and a lot of heartache, wrap that up in a box and put it under my Christmas tree because finally I have been given what I wanted all along but I will say it was given to me at the less than 100 pages mark and I now am still left with a cliffhanger until my next book in the series arrives. You heard right babes I am still going on with this series, I know you are probably asking why after I just like whinnied about it not giving me anything until the last 100 pages. It is because I was still interested in the book I before invested in the story and its characters even without the action. I need to know what happens with Kylie, Derek, Lucas, Della, Miranda, and even Brunette. I have grown attached to them. That is what makes this such a good series so far. Not just the plot but the characters.

The characters are not the icing on the cake in this book the characters are the cake and the plot is the icing. All the people in this book has grown and shown us a whole other side of them since the day we first arrived at the Falls. They aren’t characters anymore they are people that I feel like I have known my whole life and I’m falling in love with them all. That to me makes a book great.

Book Rating

Read this book if you read the first one and are still curious about how things pan out. Read this book and the first one if you are looking for a new series of new characters to fall in love with and a story to keep you carving for more. This book may not be full of fighting and action but it is full of drama, heart, and spirit, that is all I can ever ask for in a book.

Summary

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches and fairies train side by side learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world. Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

First thoughts

If your thinking oh my god not another Twilight well I can see where you would get the impression but don’t fret my dears because so far we are about as close to Twilight as a kitten is to a black bear. Both are animals and both may have black fur but the two are on their own different levels in the food chain just like this book is on a completely other level than Twilight in my opinion. I personally never enjoyed twilight but this book I can honestly say so far is enjoyable. Now Halloween is one of my favorites if not my most Favorite time of the entire year and when you get to watch the old school shows like the Adams family, Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, or just Halloween town, where monsters and different creatures come to life and exist with one another, that is this book.

The plot of this book thus far is very plan and simple Kylie has a gift to talk to ghost but she refuses to accept the gift and want to learn to block it out and forget all about this world of the supernaturals and go back home to being human. Kind of a boring plot so far but there is more under the surface of this frozen lake we just have yet to break the ice.

Kylie is a girl I can relate to you feel lost in the world that you were put into like you don’t ever belong with the normal people or even among the freaks you just you and you cannot fit it any where for some reason your the one piece of a puzzle that got put in the wrong box. Still you are here you exist but why you still do not know. You parents are no longer there your mother cold and distant is always in the next room but its like you are on two different worlds. I know exactly how Kylie feels. And even though she has a friend she feels like its just a friend on the social level but nothing emotional you may call yourselves friends but you both feel nothing for each other.

I love the tone of this book so far it is a mystery tone laced full of emotion of confusion and longing but also you find happiness hiding in the places you least expect them to be.

Final Thoughts

The plot was more of a high school drama novel than one on the young adult but with the hot make out scenes and the guys maybe I can see where it pushes the line of both young adult and teens. It has a good mix to me so far even though this is just book one the way is flows it can be a teen book but also a young adult if they like the kind of monster mash up books. The plot carries on like a TV show in a way not so much full of action but of drama and events about Kylie changing and her friends, and guy troubles.

The characters are so I can grow attached to. Della with her smart mouth, hot head ways I can see in one of my friends who likes to take everything at face value and doesn’t care about the feelings, not that he tries to its just and honest no filter person thing that some people have like Della.

Miranda is a quirky little thing that is always trying to find the like in others but also has a lot of baggage to carry and is willing to take on more for others, but she also has buttons that can be pushed and when pushed can be just as hot headed as Della , but when she loves she loves hard and fast.

Kylie a girl who wants to find her way in the world and just belong to something sure now she has friends and people who care about her but her place in this world is still missing and with out knowing where she is meant to be she can never fully let herself be happy. She is however very judgmental about herself and jumps to conclusions way to quickly and has a lot of trust issues but I think she makes a great main character.

Book Rating

If you like monster mash up’s, high school drama, and super natural hotties then I would say give this book a read. It is intended for young adults but I think it falls more onto the side of a teen read but seeing as how I am still flipping the pages I will say it can keep interest if you are willing to give into the drama and love triangles.

BOOK NUMBER TWO HERE WE COME!

Thrown Over the Frost Cliff

Frostfire By:Amanda Hocking

18105451

Summary

Bryn Aven is an outcast among the Kanin, the most powerful of the troll tribes.

Set apart by her heritage and her past, Bryn is a tracker who’s determined to become a respected part of her world. She has just one goal: become a member of the elite King’s Guard to protect the royal family. She’s not going to let anything stand in her way, not even a forbidden romance with her boss Ridley Dresden.

But all her plans for the future are put on hold when Konstantin a fallen hero she once loved begins kidnapping changelings. Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process?

SIDE NOTE

While reading this book I became aware that this is kind of a spin off series, it comes from Amanda Hocking’s other book series switched which focuses of the trylle kingdom and not the Kanin. Even thought it is a spin off the book it fine by itself as they give you all the backstory and information on the other kingdoms it can be a stand alone series if you so chose it to be.

Review

First Thoughts

The plot line of this book so far is straight forward without a lot of fillings, more books I read tend to give way to much information on little things like describing how one curtain is a mixture of twenty different shades of blue and what the fabric is. This book gives you the right amount of details by describing the city and the people so we can enjoy the story more than boring charters. From the halfway point we have been given the main character and her group of friends, a budding love interest, and a complicated villain. The main problems seems to be the kidnapping of the changelings, so from the half way point I will say this book is moving along nicely without too many speed bumps to slow us down.

The characters are some that I am still working out but it seems to be just a normal group of high school based personalities. Bryn is one who is trying not to fall in love with her boss but s also fighting a darkness in her heart blaming herself for her fathers almost death and wanting nothing but revenge on Konstantin. She also sees herself as a misfit and an outsider but she wants nothing more than to become a hogdragen. Ridley her boss is starting to show her that he cares for her on more than a work relationship basis. Tilda and Ember, Bryn’s two best friends are some of your average best friend characters. Ember being carefree and outspoken like a social butterfly, while Tilda is level headed and a clam spirit who will never go against the king or her orders but can also be a monster is one of her friends are in danger.

For the half way mark I am going to say this book is great the story is coming along nicely and its keeping my interest. I already know so much about the characters personalities and their back stories so I will say that i’m enjoying reading this book and it feels like the rest of the book is set up for the main climax now that we have gotten all the characters out of the way.

Final Thoughts

The plot in this book seems to be one that could take book number two and put it into book one because the cliff hanger at the ending is like the publisher wanted the book done like that day and Amanda Hocking said “here ya go” Then finished writing the book later and then thought it sold good so ill make this book number two. Now I haven’t gotten to read but number two but I am hoping it is more put together than the first one.

I cannot say that I hated or Loved the book because I really did neither, I was simply enjoying the read and I would like to save my judgement until I have read book two. I can say this book held my interest so that is a plus, because that is what a book is meant to do keep you hooked into it.

The characters are just characters in a book to me so far like I still have no attachments to any of them and I would feel nothing if they died so that is a negative point there. Bryn I can relate to on her love level with Ridley trying not to love him because she knows it will not end will and they really shouldn’t because of work. I do think she blames herself far too much and has a very hotheaded temper other than that she just bland, a generic female hero.

The ending of this book wasn’t a let down per say but it wasn’t what I was expecting when I first started it but after making it to about 3/4 I could tell I was going to be lead to a cliff because my pages were thinning fast and my answers were still growing my the words.

I will say read this book if you want a nice fantasy book with very faint action but a lot of love drama and if you do not care to read a series and cliff hangers. If you want a quick read and not a series you should look else where because this book is not for you.

I personally will be reading the second book because this book did hold my interest and  I am still invested in the story.

A Court of Disapointment and Clifhangers

A Court of Wings and Ruin. By: Sarah J. Mass

SUMMARY

Alright, buckle up ladies and gentleman because we have a lot to weather here, no really we are about to go through all four season of the high courts.

Ferye is back in the spring court pretending that everything is fine and happy just as it had been before Amarantha, she is eating, laughing and even painting again, however she is making the spring court a living nightmare. Ianthe tries to pull one over on Feyre telling her and Lucien how she thought they wanted Nesta and Elain to be fey like them, Feyre bits her tongue as does Lucien but she harbors her hate deep down waiting for the perfect moment to strike. While in the spring court the king of Hybern sends his niece(Brannagh) and nephew(Dagdan) who are twins, along with Jurian, to keep Tamlin company while also trying to bring down the wall. Ferye has been causing major problems for Tamlin and Ianthe, she makes Tamlin question Lucien and Feyre’s relationship, all his guards turn against him along with his people. One the last visit to the wall with Lucien, Jurian, Brannagh, and Dagdan, Feyre has decided to return home now that Tamlin’s court is in complete shambles and is ready to fall at any given moment, but along the way she finds Lucien, who then decides to come with Feyre to find Elain.

Feyre is poisoned by faebane so she cannot winnow like she had planned to do instead Lucien winnows them as far as he can but they must now trek through the Autumn Court, Home to Lucien’s family who would much rather see him dead than in their court. After a few days of traveling they are intercepted by Lucien’s brothers, one of whom is Eris(Oh yes the evil man himself, get ready it’s about to get good!) They fight against the brothers and are able to get away from them and they chose to settle in a cave on the mountains that hold the border of the Winter Court, here Feyre tells Lucien about her sister Elain. The next day they enter the Winter Court but are again found by Lucien’s brothers. However Cassian and Azriel arrive and take them to the night court.

Once Rhysand returns to Velaris, after being on the human side of the wall gathering information, him and Feyre reunite with each other and he agrees to take in Lucien but only after all three males threaten his life if he makes any mistakes. Feyre then goes to the house of wind to visit her sisters accompanied by Lucien and Cassian, she find Nesta in the library and discovers something strange and ancient rest inside her sister, she also finds out her and Cassian have been doing nothing but fighting daily. She then visits Elain’s room to find her heartbroken and wanting to return to her human love Graysen as they were to be married in a week.

The Inner Circle decides to host a meeting with all the High Lords of all the courts(yes this includes Tamlin and the Autumn court) to seek help and to band together to fight in this war. They also decided to seek help of a mortal queen, one the other sisters had cursed and sold to a man who adores beautiful women, but she is hidden somewhere on the human side of the wall and after a heated debate about who would go Lucien offers to go on the journey to keep his mind off of Elain, who still rejects his love. Amren is still trying to translate the Book of Breathings, and later begins training Nesta to use the magic she had stolen from the cauldron. While Feyre trains with Cassian to help improve her fighting and Azriel to help show her how to fly.

The meeting then takes place in the Dawn Court as Thesan agreed to. Thesan high lord of Dawn is accompanied by his captain of guard and lover. Helion high lord of Day with a few of his guards, followed by Kallias high lord of Winter and his mate Viviane who is Mor’s best friend. Next to appear is Tarquin high lord of summer with Varian and Cresseida, lastly in comes Beron high lord of Autumn with his wife and sons and right before they call the meeting to start Tamlin comes in by himself. Maybe they can stay civil long enough to prepare for the war that is to come and not kill each other.

Review

My first thoughts reading this book were how and the heck am I going to be able to get through so many pages of Feyre being with Tamlin! I was so hyped for this book I forgot I would have to suffer through that horrible event, but it wasn’t very horrible at all to be honest. I loved everything Feyre was doing to Ianthe and the evil Hybern twins, I was begging her to let Lucian slap Ianthe for what she did to the sisters talking about ” I thought you wanted to make them Fae,” she knows that is total bull. I must say though I think what Feyre did to Tamlin is a little bit wrong okay. I said it. I did, kill me know, but I mean he did it out of love. He feels the love for her that she feels for Rhys now you tell me Feyre would not go through what Tamlin went through to get Rhys back because I think she would. Maybe not as far as using her sisters but I mean everything else he did yes. He thought what he was doing was right and I get that it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies but he was trying. After a girl you love dies then comes back to life then wants to go back out into danger and is also forced to go see a Evil Night court guy (because that is how the rest of the courts see Rhys) I think I can see where I would try and keep her safe and protected.

I had such a hard time putting this book down throughout the middle of the book. I just wanted to make it to the ending I had so many questions that needed to be answered. There was so much character growth in this book that I just fell in love with everyone all over again. You get to see a new side of the people you thought you knew, secrets are exposed and there is such so much GOD I’m getting excited just thinking about it. The sisters are my favorite part I must admit, at first Nesta I hated she was so ungrateful mistreating my poor Cassian I wanted to smack her around, and poor Elain I just wanted to hug her and tell her everything would be okay, and the one person who she seems to connect with I was shocked at how different someone can act when around another person, Elain literally brings the good out in everyone.

Now this is where it gets ugly because the ending was a let down for me. All my questions I still have no answers to. Like everything this book had built up every single detail that I was so hyped to find out, after reading 707 FREAKING PAGES!! I still got no answers. I was so mad when I finished this book I wanted to scream. The Golden queen, what happens to her? Lucian and Elain? The Humans? The Fae? Tamlin? Just everything about this ending sucked for me! Then at the end we get a spin off book which people are saying will be from the point of view of one of the characters now but we have no for sure yet. So all these things you have rattling around in your head you might never get an answer. I feel like the ending was just not a good one, the book built up so much hype throughout it just to sizzle out in the end.

Another thing Rhys being all Night court primal male turns into Feyre’s lap dog. Like the dark sweet Rhys we fell in love with is gone and it’s just Rhys taking orders from Feyre and love Feyre, I was just so over Rhys and Feyre halfway through the book, It broke my heart a little to say that, The Rhys I fell in love with in the second book the strong alpha male who was like the back bone of everyone and was always protecting his family with his swagger of cockiness is just gone, so get ready for that.

I loved the series, I do I loved that start of this book but the ending it was a big let down. I think that the second book is still the best book out of all three, but this book is worth a read just don’t get all fully hyped about it unless you just like it for the story and the love then yeah you won’t care about the ending but I am invested in this book I sunk the time into loving this book. I grown attached to these characters that I need to know what happens to them I don’t want another cliff hanger and wait another year for a book that might or might not answer the questions that you will be asking yourself if your are also invested into it.
